It’s barely post-summer, and candy aisles are already drowning in orange and black. The Hershey Company just pulled back the curtain on its official 2026 Halloween portfolio (which they’ve officially dubbed “Hersheyween”).
According to their internal consumer report, half of shoppers are already in “Halloween mode” months before October hits. Hershey’s response? A massive wave of 20+ seasonal releases.
There is just one catch for chocolate purists: Hershey spent a surprising amount of energy this year on gummies, sour belts, and salty snacks.
The Distractions: Gummies and Pirate Puffs?
If you check the candy aisle this fall, you might wonder if chocolate got bumped to second billing:
- The Gummy Takeover: Hershey is heavily pushing fruity, chewy candy early in the season. We’re talking Jolly Rancher “Trickies” (where the visual color doesn’t match the flavor), Jolly Rancher Minis, and entire variety bags built around sour candy strips and Twizzlers.
- The Salty Pivot: Between Pirate’s Booty aged white cheddar puffs, LesserEvil Pumpkin Spice popcorn, and SkinnyPop, Hershey is clearly trying to corner every “Trunk-or-Treat” parking lot event in America with savory options.
If your ideal trick-or-treat bowl involves zero gelatin and 100% cacao butter, you can safely walk right past the Jolly Rancher displays.
What Actually Matters for Chocolate Fans
Tucked behind the sea of gummies and cheese puffs, Hershey did bring back some heavyweight cocoa contenders:
- The Return of the Fangs: Hershey’s Cookies ’N’ Creme Fangs make their return for the first time since 2024. If you like the white-creme-and-cookie crunch format, the wearable-fang novelty remains a classic.
- KIT KAT Count & Witch: The wafer favorite returns in two breakaway spooky shapes, available in regular, king, and 6-pack sizes.
- The Undefeated Reese’s Pumpkins: Let’s be honest: seasonal Reese’s shapes—with their higher peanut-butter-to-chocolate ratio—are universally superior to standard cups. This year, they’re even selling a massive 110-count reusable pumpkin bowl exclusively on Amazon.
- The “Sweet & Salty” Mashup: If you want salty crunch with your chocolate, Reese’s is putting out snack-sized packs of Reese’s Dipped Animal Crackers and Dipped Pretzels.
The Chocolatest Take
It makes sense that giant candy conglomerates want to sell you snacks from July straight through November. But when Halloween night arrives, nobody trades away a full-size chocolate bar for a bag of sour strips.
Skip the filler gummies, keep your eyes on the seasonal chocolate shapes, and enjoy the pumpkin-to-peanut-butter ratio while it lasts.
